Coba Student Spotlight – Joel

Today’s Spotlight is on Joel, he recently joined Coba and is thrilled to be out on the salon floor getting his hands-on training. Join us in getting to know Joel and checkout his video demo!

Why did you choose Coba?

First, I liked the look of the school, and second, the location- I love the Orange Circle it’s an awesome location! When I was researching other schools, I noticed they didn’t quite have the hands-on experience and the personal attention that the instructors here at Coba have. Plus the entire staff is extremely friendly and I’m loving the great camaraderie.

How did you discover your passion for beauty?

My passion for beauty? …[laughs]… I blame my mom for that. Well, just the fact of growing up being a musician and having to look stylish and professional at the same time always put my head into what was current and fashionable at the time, so it’s always been something I’ve always thought about doing.

What advice can you share with potential students who still have their doubts about starting their cosmetology career?

Do away with those doubts, you can definitely find something in yourself to have your personal expression in cosmetology, no one really does a cookie-cutter service, everybody has their unique style of doing hair, nails or makeup.

Lastly, where do you see yourself in five years?

In a salon, with a bunch of friends that I enjoy being around with, and with a great clientele. Maybe by then I’ll have an assistant and I will be able to teach!

Coba Student Spotlight – Hailey

Today’s Spotlight is on Hailey, she is soon to graduate and is very excited to see where the beauty industry will take her. Checkout what she demos in our video today.

What did you like best about Coba?

Smaller class sizes and a private school! When I toured schools that were more “commercial” they were indeed bigger and noticed less teachers to students ratio. I liked Coba’s smaller class sizes with more focus and attention on students than the other places.

How did you discover your passion for beauty?

When I was younger I used to do my mom, my step-mom and my dad’s hair. For example I used to put a bunch of goop and glitter in my mom and step-mom’s hair and did pony tails on dad’s hair…and when I was five I said I wanted to be a hairstylist! Later in life I figured out that is what I wanted to do.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

Working at a salon, most likely renting a chair and having a big clientele while being able to do whatever I want in the beauty industry, I think that’ll be very cool.

What advice can you share with prospective students who are thinking about starting their beauty career, but are still doubting about it?

Honestly, beauty is the coolest industry I’ve ever been in. I just modeled for NAHA which is like the National Hair Awards and was just in awe watching the stylists build such unique hairstyles, it was just incredible! There’s no limit as to how creative and artistic you can be, it’s like releasing your art on other people, it’s really cool!

Coba Student Spotlight – Mariana

mariana

Today’s Spotlight is on Mariana, she’s about to graduate from Coba Cosmetology Academy and she’s enjoyed and learned so much at cosmo training! Checkout what she demonstrates in our video today.

What did you like best about Coba?

All the teachers, and being able to learn every day while having their support next to you all the time. Their motivation really pushes you forward to become a better stylist; with their help and guidance you’re able to find out all your talents as well as the things you need to work on, so that is something that really made me happy about coming to Coba.

How did you discover your passion for beauty?

I always had a passion for hair and never really thought of it as a career choice, until I realized that every day I want to be doing something that I love! One day I came across the fact that I’ve always been playing with everyone’s hair or always experimenting with friends’ hair, like dyeing it, cutting it and what not. I would always cut my hair when in middle school, especially my bangs! Beauty has always been in the back of my mind but I never really thought of it until someone brought it up to me and I was like “oh hey, why not?” I shall give it a shot.

What advice can you share with prospective students who are thinking about starting their beauty career?

If you’re thinking about doing it, go for it, because if you don’t, you’ll always have that question whether or not you could have been someone or been somewhere in the beauty world. Beauty can take you very far, you never know who you’ll bump into. Being a cosmetologist can open many doors and possibilities, whether you want to be in a spa environment or salon, and you never stop learning!

Why did you chose Coba?

It’s a great area, everyone here is really nice, it’s pretty close to home and I like the curriculum that is taught, I really enjoy coming here!

What is your favorite skill you’ve learned so far at Coba?

How to blow-dry, I didn’t know how to when I started, but now it’s one of the things that I’m really good at!

Favorite current hair trend:

I really dig in balayage, like color, not so much into ombre, but balayage is really pretty it goes all the way up, it’s really awesome.

Where do you see yourself in five years?

I really want to travel to other countries and do hair shows!
